Part 5: Jungfraujoch

On our second full day in Interlaken, we caught the 7 a.m. train to Grindelwald where we then boarded another train to Kleine Scheidegg which would take us to the Jungfraujoch - the highest point in Europe. The entire journey took several hours, but when we got to the top, the views were spectacular. It was clear, sunny, a bit windy, but not too cold. This year is the 100th anniversary of the Jungfraubahn (train) that was built to reach the mountain.

History of the building of the Jungfraubahn

Tunnel to the ice palace which was created in the 1930s. The palace is cooled to -3 degrees to offset the warmth generated by visitors. Brrrrrr!!

Dan and I grab some lunch before our 45-minute hike uphill to Monchsjochhutte (a small, remote warming hut).
